Fun. But I kind of like Dr Caymus' "old fashioned" version too, and now I feel guilty about moving to another list!
Oh and Wired...sorry.

One thing I have noticed...the xml file doesn't allow for skill points you have trained in your currently active skill...hence I'm some 300K down compared to Dr C's list. Don't know if it's possible to fix this or not...a workaround is to stop then start your skill (or switch skills and switch back) just prior to downloading the xml file.

I may have to create a character called "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA". At least then there would be one list I could be top of...

Since this your showroom can easily be data mined at the moment if people wish to use it to evaluate targets.
Or...would it be possible for contributors to choose to be anonymous? You would see their skill points, but not their names.
In fact, since Foiritain said he edited the xml file to only add one section, I assume it's a simple matter to change the NAME of the character prior to uploading...I wouldn't know how, but I'm sure SOMEONE could figure it out...

Sara;
I tried anonymising my character name by editing the xml file. Currently the anonymized version is struggling to upload...I hope I haven't broken anything, but at the same time I don't want to stop the upload process in case that breaks something too!
It's not that I'm bothered about being anonymous, I just wanted to try it to see if it could address other people's concerns

People like you start wars.
Sara - any chance you couldremove the Char ID from the detail page? Let's play "Keep Gariuys busy" for a while... Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?" Cleese: "I've told you once." |

Tom Baker must DIE.

Just kidding mate...some gnarly missile skills there...more than one third of your entire skill point total. Not bad! Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?" Cleese: "I've told you once." |

Sara - have noticed same thing as Slickster - I used to be on this list with 76 skills, have now fallen off it. I also notice one player (Angelsfist) is listed twice - I think your code has gone a bit screwy. Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?" Hmm. This is only the first round of xml cheats, and they haven't been very subtle. Do you have any plans in place to prevent people just "edging" themselves into first place by means of more creative (i.e. less easy to spot) editing? --- Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?" I am a suspicious soul...maybe someone can explain something to me.
When I look at Scorpyn, Pestily, Last Starfighter, Tom Baker or my OWN character, the missile skills are listed in alphabetical order. When I look at Indesin's they are listed in REVERSE alphabetical order. I just wonder WHY is all? --- Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?" Sara...I think I'm going to stop using your site. It's too open to hacking of the xml.
Fir instance, I'd like to know how Momfer Undersand, who when he first uploaded to the site was pretty much on a par with me, has suddenly (in the space of less than a week) leapt to 2 million SP ahead of me.
Yeah, I know he could have been training a long skill, what with the update on the xml file and all...but it's still true that if people added a few hundred thou SP here and there, how would you know?
All the people that contributed to Dr. Caymus's thread had to invest time to do so...plus Dr. C is pretty good at keeping an eye on things...this (whilst GLORIOUSLY written) is just too easy for anybody to contribute to.
No reflection on you Sara, and probably more on me than anybody else...I have trust issues, my analyst says so! --- Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?" Cleese: "I've told you once." |

I'm sorry you feel like that :( I cannot prevent anyone from tampering with the XML, it's impossible to verify. The only way to make it in a way that people could not edit it, is for the site to fetch the XML directly from E-O, but that requires inserting the login and password. I'm open to any ideas on how to resolv this issue, but i dont think there is anything that could be done atm.
I WISH, OH how I wish, that CCP would take it upon themselves to do this kind of thing. It would be very simple for them to do, as they have the information all to hand, and equally as simple for them to control privacy.
I would have it so that the skillpoints of ALL characters were shown...but NOT the characters name...so the list might look something like;
1. 63,940,853 (Dr Caymus) 2. 55,047,772 (Namarus) 3. 53,948,939 (Anonymous) 4. 53,290,198 (Anonymous) 5. 53,043,409 (Anonymous) 6. 52,637,518 (Fenian) 7. 52,620,053 (Keyser Soze) 8. 52,314,152 (Anonymous) 9. 52,228,601 (Anonymous) 10. 52,096,947 (Whiskey DP)
The point of listing the skill point totals even if not the names is so that you TRULY know your position in the list.
Would be easy for CCP to allow you to set options for allowing/disallowing others to see you character's breakdown of skills as well.
I hope I didn't bring you down with my paranoia...I LOVE what you did, and you did it very well. But you can see the effect you've had with this site, by the sheer number of people who have appeared in the list, who were NEVER tempted to contribute to Dr. Caymus's version. --- Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?"
